Why Attend A Service Academy
Since the time I was very young, I wanted to serve my country. I always enjoyed helping out those around me, and though my time that has morphed into the idea of doing so through military service.
The idea of joining the academy came from my desire to lead. I would always the be first to volunteer myself, or if I saw someone in need I would be right by their side and do all I could to help them succeed be it through encouraging them, explaining an idea to them, or by acting as an anchor in a difficult time. This desire began to be applied to a broader scale as I got older, and my desire to attend a Service Academy stems from said desire. The specific reason for wanting to attend a Service Academy is that I understand that as I try to serve

My decision to join the military in general I believe subconsciously started when my older brother returned from Army basic training. While my brother was a pretty smart guy he had never really been to apply himself nor did he have the drive to, but whatever had happened to him during army basic training had made a change in him; a change for the best. He came back and the transformation was evident in every single one of his actions and thoughts. He had a drive to accomplish all of his goals dreams and aspiration, not only that he had the discipline necessary to stay on his new found path. I went on to college in the fall fallowing his return from basic training not sure if these new traits and strength I saw in him would continue or disappear. When I returned home that fall after my first semester and talked to him and I saw the changes had stayed with him and grown even further. With all that he had used the tools he had been given to accomplish so much in already so little of time. All that stayed in my head, but it did not become relevant to me until my sophomore year of college. I realized that while I was…

Private A.J. McSparrow (former railway worker from Parramatta, NSW), was one of the many men who enlisted because he felt that it was his duty to support the 'mother country' "I have (enlisted) ... and I don't regret it in the very least. I believe that it is every young fellow's duty. There are far better men than any of us have already… besides every paper one lifts it has something to say about young fellows being so slow in coming forward… we are the sort of young men who should go.”…

The honor of attending one of the Military Service Academies would be one of the highest honors to be awarded. To be afforded the opportunity to receive that type of education and training would give me the basis to meet my life goals. I have attended several excellent schools during my life and the mission statements have been "Work Study Worship" and "Service Honor God and Leadership" these have been engrained into me and I believe they have prepared me for a life in the Military. My mother has worked serving the children and families in our State and ensured I received the best education possible. I have always volunteered to help with the Foster Children and those less fortunate during the holidays and to help support the Community.…

I became a Department of Homeland Security government employee because I believed in the mission and felt compelled to dedicate a portion of my life to see an impact on our society. I am proud to share the mission with my children and displaying patriotism. The most powerful words I heard from my son the day he graduated from high school was “Mom, I am and have been very proud of you because of the work and the dedication you have shown me. I want to enlist and also show my dedication and commitment to our nation.” His words brought tears to my eyes. At that moment I realized that my actions did not only influence me.…

Why I want to attend a Service Academy and why I feel that I am prepared to do so? I want to attend a service academy because it combines my desire to join the military, advance my education, and my desire to be the best that I can be. The academies are very prestige’s from what I gather and are ranked among the very top military colleges in the nation; that alone pecked my interest from the moment I heard of the academies. I have also wanted to be in the military from a very young age having great respect for the men and women who served in the armed forces. With these things in mind along with my desire to be the best that I can be the academies seemed like a no brainer. They have everything that I’m looking for a good education, military…

The Armed Forces is something my family is quite familiar with and has been an influential part of my life as a structure of leadership. My dad has told me a multitude of things he has experienced while in the Army and the opportunities given at hand when he was enlisted. I have also heard praises from many family members and family friends to the loved ones that have taken another step ahead by enrolling into college, and enhancing their leadership skills to become well renowned officers of the military. I will be taking this same road of success, but pushing it another level by applying for the NROTC, which will train my mind and body to guide others when I am commissioned into the Marine Corps.…

At a service academy, the people that attend are there to get an education and train to be an officer in the military. They are there to gain valuable life and military skills. In my opinion, that is more appealing than any college. I want to surround myself with people that have the same goals and aspirations as me, and I believe that the Academy can provide that. During the week that I was at the Air Force summer seminar, I learned about life at the Academy. I knew going into that week, that I would either love it or hate it. Throughout the week I spent time doing physical training, going to classes, and learning about life at the Academy. After that week, I knew I wanted to attend the Air Force Academy. I knew I belonged. I want to attend…

Being on National Honor Society and sports teams throughout high school, I had enjoyed participating in many volunteer experiences before coming to Drake. Every year our basketball team would collect food around our community to be donated to various food drives in nearby cities. With only general assumptions about food pantries, I always wondered how they worked. Now, after being able to volunteer at the IMPACT food pantry over the last few months, my original assumptions about food panties has transformed. The service-learning class I took this semester challenged many other perspectives in my life.…
