Why Bother By Michael Pollen Analysis
The cheap energy refers to us, humans, revolving around fossil fuels and our incapacity to change our actions in order to heal the planet. We all want to reduce the effects of climate change but we are not willing to change our behaviors. As a result, like Michael Pollen said in his essay Why Bother?, “The cheap-energy mind translates everything into money, its proxy, it prefers to put its faith in market-based solutions–carbon taxes and pollution-trading schemes.” In addition, we believe that the efforts of one individual will not have any impacts, so it discourages us to make a change in our lifestyle. Wendell Berry believed that specialization in industrial civilization prevents people to create a change. People assume that it isn’t their

The article goes into great detail of how America has gone into such an increase in using oil and other non-renewable resources. America spends billions of dollars a year on oil and gas to fuel the countries working class. This was incorporated in my paper along with other facts that Griffin uses throughout his article. His article gave me insight to the crisis that we face everyday and a new wave of thinking when it comes to alternative energy.…

We are a plague of negative energy consumers and we will continue to remove ourselves from the reality of environmental humiliation if it means we can still enjoy our material devices, and our complicated obsession of hurting mother nature. The world’s energy consumption has escalated firmly since the industrial boom of the 1800s and will continue to rise as long as we hold a place on this planet or as long as our planet contains the ability to sustain our humanitarian pressure. Presently, the vast majority of our energy consumption is provided by coal or natural gas, but due to the limited supply of resources, the constant production has driven oil and gas prices up. With exhausted traditional natural gas sources, entrepreneurs set out to…

Willy Loman has the confidence of a billionaire. He acts like he is a hero, almost as if he ran the town. Willy’s confident attitude rubbed off onto his kids (Biff and Happy) making them believe that their father was a very successful man and that they were living the high class life. When in reality it was so far from that. Only Willy saw himself as the best. His friends, his bosses all knew he was full of talk, but never mentioned anything to him. “Well, that's the training, the training. I'm telling you, i was selling’ thousands and thousands, but I had to come home.”(34) The reality of Willy Loman's life is quite sad and pathetic, thinking that one is making so much money and is going to be so successful when really none of that is going…

“A Climate Repair Manual” by Gary Stix is about the debate of global warming. The ramifications of not initiating programs to stem the problem is “the most scientific and technical challenge that humanity has ever faced”. Stix addresses the issue of international governments needing to work together to attain “restructuring of the world’s energy economy”. Stix goes on to give various possible low-carbon energy alternatives, such as “biofuels, solar, hydrogen, and nuclear” and that inaction far out weighs “the feared economic damage” that nations face.…

One can understand the view point of this opposition’s concern because it is a valid argument. Organizations are finding ways to cut down on emissions by giving suggestive idea “solutions” . Suggesting solutions help the cause. Therefore it is the case that organizations are helping the cause of climate change and reducing emissions by suggesting their ideas on solutions for the cause. It is a valid argument. Although it is a valid argument, in the article of “False Solutions to Climate Change”, the author argues that effective and just solutions to climate change require decisions to be made that involve everyone affected by the results of the decisions; which is everybody on Earth, not just deals between those who are just worried by their profits (480). Organizations need to be able to find new and potent solutions that are very possible of happening in a quick and efficient manner. Only after corporate interests and centuries-old colonial mindsets have been broken, then we can begin creating a new, more just society…

    Our Energy Future

Currently, it's clear that there is an immense problem with the prospect of society's energy needs for the future. Such a large dependency on limited fossil fuels are already dampening the world's economy, and following this path will simply ensure a destitute future. However, changes could be made in today's time to prevent such an event from occurring, but it will require many separate state entities to work together and no longer undermine each other's attempts at reform. Some alternatives to fossil fuels include solar, hydro, and wind power, but replacing the resources would only be a small step to protecting the future. A more necessary change would be the reconstruction of electric grids, such as the forty year old grid in the United States that costs the government upwards of $200 billion a year to maintain.…

and many developing countries have such a high emphasis on oil and fossil fuels to their economy that any attention given to research and development on renewable energy is minimal and seen as somewhat insignificant. Due to this heavy reliance on this form of energy, wars have been fought and international relations have slowly intensified. All of these effects are what also contribute to many of the issues Mother Earth is facing. Due to their public denial and refusal of climate change, it not only makes these figures look bad but can and will affect us and our environment in the long run. Many world leaders such as the president elect Donald Trump feel climate change is a way of trying to sabotage the economy. In his own words, the president elect had personally stated his belief that climate change was a conspiracy theory perpetrated by the Chinese as a means of destroying American industrialization and employment. I am not doubting his capability as well as an other leader’s capability of combating this problem, but this controversial comment highly suggests his inexperience and lack of knowledge of important issues such as this. This shows the political establishment’s weak reaction and indifference to climate change, which is one of the reasons of why the issue has…
