Why breakfast is important:
Introduction (attention): Have you ever heard of the supposed wise tale that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day?” Well, whoever said it was right. Breakfast is exactly what it says it is, it’s a break to the fast you’ve had over night. Without breakfast your body is still asleep, your groggy, irritable, or you just can’t focus on anything. I’m sure we all know how it feels to not eat breakfast lately, with early classes or work: but what about how you feel when you actually do get some food in you before making the long haul to class? I want you to do me, and yourself a favor and do what we all love to do: eat.
Need: Many mothers try to force food down you before you head off to school growing up so once you leave home you develop the breakfast of a champ: coffee and a cigarette. And ever since then breakfast has been maybe some pop tarts... at lunchtime.
What many people don’t know is that breakfast can make or break a diet, because breakfast helps set the tone for the rest of the day. If you’re one of those people who think skipping breakfast is a good way to lose weight... think again. Five reasons you should never skip breakfast include:
1. Your body responds to not eating for hours and hours while you sleep by slowing down its metabolic rate. By eating breakfast, you wake up your metabolism to burning those calories you need to burn to lose weight.
2. Eating breakfast aids in weight loss. In one recent study, people who ate breakfast as their largest meal lost an average of 17.8 pounds over three months. The other participants consumed the same number of total calories per day, but ate most of their calories at dinner, according to the study published in July in the journal Obesity. The large-dinner group only lost an average of 7.3 pounds each over the same time period.
Not only does breakfast help with weight loss, it can help you in class and at work.
