Why College Education Is Important To Me
“In our modem society employers are looking for people who have the most to offer and this is why a higher education is more valuable than gold” (Torres 2012). This quotation is why college education is important to me because it is the key to opening doors to better career opportunities and higher earnings. I want to better my life and make my daughters proud of me. “They are my inspiration to go back to school” (Guthrie, 2011). I believe that if my children see me working hard on my education, that will be motive for them to do the same and reach all their goals and succeed in their lives. In other words, the benefits of education are endless.
To begin with, education is primordial; a person without education will be lost due to society’s demands. It means the good opportunities are waiting for people who have higher education. I would like to share with you an anecdote of myself that relates to what I believe. I cried because I was afraid of changes. But after all, I accepted my new job and I started to get a higher salary. These changes came because I had some college education and N.I.N.O.S. has to be in compliance with state regulations. Ninos, Inc. helped me with grants to continue my education and I graduated on May 14, 2003. Since my graduation in 2003 there have been many changes at N.I.N.O.S. A Bachelor’s Degree is now a requirement to be a

The pursuit of a higher education has never been high on my priority list. Armed with barely an eighth grade education and tremendous ambition, I was able to achieve professional success in the absence of a college education. My heroes have always been men who have achieved great success with out an education; Henry Ford, Larry Ellison, Bill Gates, and Richard Branson. With the recent downturn in the economy and I found my self seeking employment I realized that not only was I was missing many opportunities due to my lack of a degree, but if I had a degree it is highly possible that I might have been retained from a previous employer as opposed to being laid off. Obtaining a college degree will allow me to be more competitive in the market place, provide me with a great sense of achievement and personal fulfillment, gain more knowledge, and challenge me intellectually.…

My journey starts when I leave Puebla, Mexico eight years ago without knowing a single word in English to being a first generation college student in the United States. My family consists of my mother, two older sisters, my twin brother, and left behind my alcoholic, abusive father. I have been working in the hospitality industry ever since I arrived, from being a dishwasher to becoming front of the house supervisor. Initially without English knowledge or particular skills I had to settle into working in the lowest paid and grueling position in a restaurant, dishwasher. I was able to move up the ladder by taking night English as a Second Language class at City College of San Francisco and working up to ten hours a day every day. Every semester I took ESL classes, went hand in hand with promotions at work or better employment opportunities, to all the way to becoming supervisor of the restaurant. For this reason, I found in education an exit to poverty and a path to mind enrichment.. My proudest achievements are getting a GED, obtaining a high school diploma after completing the transitional studies program and now a 4.0 GPA in my first semester of credit classes, which I took to transfer to a four year university.…
