Why Did Christopher Columbus Wrong
Columbus the Fake Christopher Columbus- a name that makes us think “sailed the ocean blue in 1492” and the great one who discovered the Americas. Since a young age we are taught about the glorious, heroic man who came and conquered the Americans; there is even a holiday for him. But little do many know that Columbus was not the first and he did much harm when coming to North America. While most think Columbus was a great and powerful man who founded America, he was more of an imposter who did much harm. Growing up, I thought of Columbus as a very brave man who left his home and came to discover new land. Not only did they teach us of his bravery, but that he was a righteous, christian man who came to the new land to lead others to Christ.

In fact Christopher Columbus didn’t discover anything, because there were many people already living in America, prior to his arrival. There is also evidence that Vikings from Europe had landed in America 500 years before Columbus did. On the bright side, the news Christopher Columbus brought back to Europe letting them know there was land to the west inspired many explorers and settlers who came after. Which is one of his only major accomplishment because without him in a way, none of us would be here today.…

Most people know that Christopher Columbus discovered America, but are probably unaware of all the destruction that he caused in doing so. Columbus had an urge to sail west to the Indies where he ended up finding North America and did not even realize it. In fact, he made four voyages, mainly to the Caribbean and part of the north coast of South America and was sure it had to be the Indies. He was looking for gold and spices that he had read about, but was in the wrong place. His exploration brought so many bad things to people. Enough reason to consider Columbus a jerk.…

Who was the navigator, colonizer, and explorer extraordinaire that fearlessly journeyed the seas and “discovered” the great “New World”? It was Christopher Columbus, of course! However, in reality, Columbus didn’t actually discover the Americas. Rather, he traveled to an already-inhabited land with not-so-civilized inhabitants, and expropriated both the land, and the indigenous people. By doing this, he brought settlers from Europe, who helped take over the land, causing plenty of suffering and havoc, but also completing the map and transforming life for people around the world. Some believe he was a hero, and some believe he was a monster. However, one man’s gain is another’s loss in most cases. Columbus brought change, both good and bad, through his actions, which defined his character and personality.…

Christopher Columbus is not a hero. Columbus was the credited for the discovery of the Americas, but he can also be credited for the enslaving the natives and almost causing the genocide of the Indians. When Columbus found the Americas he was convinced that it was Asia so he called the natives there “Indians”. Columbus described them as “gentle” an having “generosity of heart.” Also that he thought that they should be good and intelligent servants. After the trip Columbus lied about what he found on the island to those who had sponsored him, and they allowed him a return trip because of the lies he told .Columbus’s second trip back to America was a lot more grandiose; bringing with him more ships and more men. By 1496 Columbus had kidnapped hundreds of natives as slaves for the Old World, but about half of them died on the way. He gave the native children there quotas to find gold, and if they had not, their hand would have been cut off. During that trip, rape was common as the Spanish had not brought along women with them. Along with the ships and men, Columbus also brought along diseases, like smallpox, that crippled the Taino tribe population. Christopher Columbus was not a hero, he was a heinous villain that lied to get what he wanted, killed innocent people, women were raped because of him, and the diseases he brought to the Americas crippled the population of 400,000 to less than a…

For many years, there has been a controversy depicting whether Christopher Columbus was to be named a Hero or a Villain. As we all know, Christopher Columbus did not actually “discover” the Americas. People to this day believe that Christopher Columbus took claim to discovering what they called “The New World,” when in reality, Indians could have been living on America for hundreds to thousands of years before Columbus’s time. People can classify Columbus in many different forms; a hero, a villain, or even a leader to the people around him in his time. Due to the support of the documents presented and other historical evidence, I see Columbus more as a villain, for the way the natives were treated and how Columbus Day came to be. Columbus is called a hero because of the several accomplishes made during his life time, a villain due to the fact that several thousands of Indians and Native Americans perished during his exploration, and a leader to his fellow men because of the way he carried his men during the struggles in the Americas.…
