Why Did Dickens Write The Christmas Carol

Did Dickens help prevent social change by writing the Christmas carol? Yes, in my opinion I think he certainly did. I think he did because many of his books are about social change. He wrote his books with concern of happiness, treatment, and the health of the society. Dickens also wanted to speak against the workhouse and attitudes of the Victorian people by writing the Christmas carol. Dickens was able to pursue it in a very good way and he was able to send a message to everyone by writing the Christmas carol. Here are some reasons, the first reason is, in the Christmas carol he made a character named scrooge. Scrooge is supposed to be a bad, cruel, and a rude person. No one likes him in the Christmas carol, everyone is afraid of him. Dickens also created three spirits in the story. Each spirit is supposed to teach Scrooge lessons and his mistakes. The spirits threaten him if he doesn’t change and fix his mistakes. The first spirit took him on a trip into his Christmas past to show him how he acted when he was little. When Scrooge was little his life was filled with joy and happiness but now Scrooge’s life is very dark. The spirit is trying to show Scrooge what is missing in his life. Which is joy and happiness.
Dickens showed us not to be greedy in the Christmas carol by scrooge being really rich, but he was still miserable and he was suffering from his own pain. Money doesn’t provide happiness all it does is make you rich. Scrooge is a greedy man, because he was not generous, no one loved or liked him because of his attitude. His greed made him the man he is today, A rich, miserable, rude man. This is why you need to be generous so you won’t be miserable. Scrooge learned not to be greedy in the Christmas carol because Dickens threatened him with consequences by sending the spirits to teach him some lessons. One consequence will be him dying young.
