Frederick’s military can be seen throughout the war. In 18 June, 1757 Prussia fought against Austria at the battle of Kolin and lost. Frederick’s strategy failed. His officer corps naturally followed as part of a caste system devoted to their king. Citizens recruited into the military were compelled to follow both through strictly implemented disciplinary actions on the battlefield and through pay via government taxation. Additionally, Frederick insured popularity with the public and his soldiers by…

My Facing Frederick Essay “If there is no struggle, there is no progress”. Bolden - a snare of a snare. This quote, said by a man who changed the world, in which the quote explained that man’s life without once saying his name at all, is written in a book that tells his life story. Yet, the true, more elaborate definition of the quote would be: if no one were to struggle and lead a life of no toil and no pain, the world wouldn’t have adapted and converted itself into what it is now. And, in this case, ending slavery would have been a million miles away if it weren’t for this man and the endeavors he has done.…

Burnside now authorized volunteers to ferry themselves across the river in the clumsy pontoon boats. The Battle of Fredericksburg was a crushing defeat for the Union, whose soldiers fought courageously and well but fell victim to mismanagement by their generals, including confused orders from Burnside to Franklin. Burnside accepted responsibility for the defeat, though many blamed Lincoln for pressuring him to go ahead with an impossible offensive. Seward had also offered to resign, but Lincoln refused in both cases, smoothing over the cabinet crisis and deftly limiting the political repercussions of the defeat at…

In the Narrative of Fredrick Douglas, An American Slave, Written by Himself published in 1845. Which was published by the American anti-slavery society. One characteristic that really stuck out in my opinion is his determination. I say this one because there is so many moments in his narrative where he has to be determined against all odds. Poe in his story, the cask of amontillado brilliantly uses situational and verbal irony to establish his signature disturbing mood. Irony is a contrast between an expected outcome and an actual outcome. During the first part of the story, Montresor the protagonist character came across Fortunato the antagonist character, “during the supreme madness of the carnival season”(6 Poe). This is a prime example of situational irony because at a carnival the reader is expecting the event to be full of fun and enjoyment, but this did not happen because Fortunato was savagely murdered by Montresor. The situational irony also causes the mood to be one of disturbance because Poe creates a joyous setting of a carnival, but then stripes the happy connotations…
