Why Did James Cameron An Auteur?

I personally feel that James Cameron falls into the auteur theory as a director and falls within the parameters of the definition provided in the reading, “directorial style.” (Gocsik 92) Cameron is an auteur of his own filmography. Any concept, style of any idea, theme or attitude that can be considered as obsessively used. In Cameron’s case this can be seen with his obsession of space and water or combination of both. Cameron’s obsessiveness is apparently clear in his filmography, taking into account his approach to film production. The enormous amounts of time and money he spends to realize and produce his visions to make them “perfect” in his world in addition to his signatures that can be found in his films. Cameron personality contributes to why I feel he is an auteur. Due to his unifying elements in his films through the use of directorial trademarks/signatures used within his films. Cameron has 6 distant trademarks that can be found within his films: Grandiose Digital Effects, Machines vs. Nature/Humanity, strong female leads, men Struggle and often fight, monitoring the situation, “Go! Go! Go!” as dialogue used within his films. In addition, video monitor as a perspective of the camera (Surveillance camera, video logs, etc.), Blue overlay and close-up of feet and wheels. Cameron is a master of the long shot which allows him to show the view the atmosphere.
