Why Did Khrushchev Build The Berlin Wall

The arrangement of the Berlin wall was an order of building the wall was documented by a telephone conversation between Khrushchev and the head of the East German politburo, Walter Ulbricht. In this conversation, Khrushchev had no trouble convincing Ulbricht of the necessity to close off East Germany. He also advised Ulbricht and the East German authorities to lay an iron ring around Berlin. The first barrier was created overnight on August 12, 1961.
