Why did the prohibition cause a crime wave? Will I be going to tell you? Ok, so the prohibition caused a crime wave because I think people did not know what to do when they could not have any liquor. When the prohibition was on they tried to make their own liquor and got caught and had to go to jail. Then the crime led to super gangsters because of the new law that you're not allowed to sell,or drink alcohol. That also led to super gangsters not being able to be held in regular prisons because of what they said to guard like in the article it says, “They paid guards to pass messages for them, and if the guards said no, the gangsters threatened to hurt their families. Alcatraz needed more surety because of a super gangster. They needed more because for every 3 prisoners there was one guard. When I read the article it said something like the gangster would gang up one of-of the guards then that guard would die and then they would have to chase him/her down. I don’t know about you but I think it would still be safe because what I heard was only two people have made it out of Alcatraz until this day. You have to think of how many people have gone there. So I think it would still be safe. I can see why A little people would be scared because on a nice day the waters not as cold so then that would be more of the day that they try to escape. In the middle of the ocean, the salt was taking over the jail and making it fall apart which I think made it lead to it closing. After about a couple centuries the prohibition ended which made Alcatraz lose a lot of business.
