Why Did The Allies Punish Germany

The European allies were more interested in punishing Germany then creating a lasting peace. I Believe they did this for many reasons. Even though they might have known it wasn't fair they did it anyway. One reason I believe this is because Europe had suffered so many casualties and deaths they had also lost a lot of land. Germany on the other hand didn't have as much as Europe. But they had to live right next to each other. So Europe probably didn't want to have to live next to Germany knowing in some ways they lost more than Germany. Germany was punished greatly in the treaty of Versailles. They lost a lot of territory and had severe restrictions placed on their military operations. Germany had to pay for the allies reparations. They
also made all of Germany's territories in Africa and the pacific be declared as part of the league of Nations. They created so much trouble for Germany just because they wanted someone to blame. Germany was the easy target because in some ways they were weakest but lost the least. The countries felt cheated and betrayed by Germany. by blaming them for the war it was easy to humiliate them, which is exactly what they wanted to do in the first place. The governments favored blaming Germany because it would take some of the pressure off of them for and someways allowing the water to happen. Most nation officials liked it as well because they failed to end the war. In conclusion there are many reasons on why the European allies were more interested in pushing Germany been in creating a lasting peace. In a short answer, it was just easiest and Germany was the easy target. None of the European allies wanted to admit what they had done to cause all the problems so they blame Germany.
