A paradox is a statement leading to a conclusion that seems logically unacceptable or self-contradictory, despite sound reasoning based upon acceptable premises. The Fermi paradox is the contradiction between the estimated high probability of other intelligent extraterrestrial civilizations and the lack of evidence for the existence of such civilizations.
