Oceania possessed no individuality or sense of freedom so there was little to no chance of ever rising up. Being different from everyone in our world still gets its own punishment from society except what if like in 1984 you were punished in more extreme ways for visible expression? It was stated in 1984 about the masses “Until they became conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious.” People being forbidden to think limited them from sharing ideas and forming a rebellion. Even if the inhabitants of Oceania wanted to be able to think and behave on there own it required the act of rebelling so they were in an indefinite standstill like which came first the chicken or egg, …show more content…
The Thought Police were straight forward at apprehending their offenders but provided a fear of the unknown as to what happened to them. “Big Brother is Watching You,” was the party's main way of inciting fear of being watched amongst the residents as there was signs of it around every corner like a haunting reminder to never forget. There was not only the fear of thinking but what would become of you if you didn't participate in so called non required procedures such as the two minutes of hate. The fear of disappearing or being caught by the Thought Police sniffed out the weak, the different, and the dreamers creating a more easily sustainable totalitarian
