Ever since Trinity Church was introduced to American architecture, historians and architectural critics alike unite with the idea that it is a masterpiece. As Juhani Pallasma writes in Architecture and the Senses, ?Architecture has the capacity to be inspiring, engaging, and life-changing?- for example, creating an experience filled with emotion, hope, and light for those in need. Did architect Henry Richardson in fact create a masterpiece? And if so, how did he accomplish this great task? The building consists of four parts: north and south transept, crossing, and nave; all those spaces lead to the focal point which is the Alter. The design of the church welcomes the worshippers to the middle of the action. The three- dimensional journey is a result of polychrome employed in the design. The Trinity Church is similar to the Pre-medieval Catholic style of architecture due to its grandeur and scale. In terms of focus, the church is a replication of post- Reformation Anglican churches. Byzantine architecture is visible in the church as it presents the same feeling and tone, while the taste resembles that of Victorian architecture. 6 The First Chancel of the Trinity Church had been reduced from 60 feet to 50 feet by extending the width of the crossing. While disposing the elements, such as the majestic circle, the design of the chancel had been centered on two gigantic half-circles, which represent a sweeping architecture of a symbolic importance. The outer circle is large and elaborate with clergy stalls, which curve the wall of the apse, while the inner circle is small and beautiful with ornamental kneelers. Farge and his associates decorated the interior elaborately with textured murals. A varied collection of light-filled stained glass windows was also created by both European and local artists demonstrating a collective and more contemporary view of the world. The multiple stained glass windows for the church were made by a new technique of layering opalescent glass creating an enhanced visual experience. The beautiful windows depict Christ in Majesty, The New Jerusalem, The presentation of the Virgin and The Resurrection. The windows fitted in1882 are endowed with subtle lines and ornamental patterning that reflect on the new English Arts & Crafts movement. The luminously colored Catholic-style windows in the south were produced in France. La Farge worked under difficult conditions and had to keep the costs low and work in speed.
