This means that african americans would not have political and social equality until they had intellectual equality and had equal and the same education. So he believed that the only way that african americans could be in any sort of political power is if they had a good education.
Booker T Washington and W.E.B were different in many ways. For an example, Booker said to accept being at the bottom of life for the time being and wait the time for african americans to be accepted. But W.E.B wanted equality right away. He wanted changes right away including education because he believed that would create political and social change in the future. Finally Booker was born a slave so he understood how they lived and what it was like to be a slave. He knew that african americans would be lynched for acting out. W.E.B was born in massachusetts and he was born free so he didn't know what it was like to be a slave. He didn't know that african americans would get lynched and if they tried to ask for change they would be hanged.
