There were no daycares or schools so the ones left to take care of the children were the women. The bottom line was that women were needed at home but are they needed now? If there is no need for women to stay home now why is it still a correct gender role. Why are the women who go to work discriminated for doing so. As times change so must our minds and the way we see things. Men must be more open to the idea and women should not be judged for doing so. Both genders must come to this understanding.

In the story “The Yellow Wallpaper” the narrator is heavily judged by everyone around her because of her illness she has been going through. The reason why is because they do not believe a word she says they believe John her husband. He is her husband and also a high standing physician although being one did not make him a good husband. He would dismiss her claims on her illness and how she felt everyday. Even after being clear with him that she was indeed depressed he would not hear a word about that nonsense. He thought locking her up and cutting off her contact would be the better solution. John had it clear in his head that he was right and that nothing she said was going to change the way he was treating her. When one is cut off from the world and left alone for long periods of time you tend to lose yourself and lose touch on reality. This is exactly what started happening to the narrator and her only release was writing.
