Why Do Books Get Band?

When someone bands a book they take from each and everyone of us knowledge that books contains. One of the many reasons Books get band is because people are worried about a younger audience reading something inappropriate, but a better way to deal with this is to challenge the book instead of banding it, that way the library still has the book but younger audience can’t get too it. Another bad thing about a band is that some books that get band are older books that have language that many today find offensive or they don’t like the way the characters thinks or his views of the world but these books show us what life was like when these older books came out. Authors sometimes take the banning of their book as a good thing because it can be use as a publicity stunt. In this essay we are going to go over the reasons why a band on a book is not the best way
to handle information.

First off, books should be challenge instead of being band. When a book is challenge all we do is keep it at a certain age level so the library still has the book but the younger generation can’t get to it and keep it for the appropriate age group. Books should be available to grownups always as part of are rights to information. We all deserve the right to read what we want to read, nobody should have the power of taking are favorite literature away from us. Books get more popular when their controversy over them. When books are banned from libraries anyone who wants to read would just buy it off the internet and that makes the author more money so this just help makes the author more money on his book. Many authors actually want to make their books more controversial because that will make the book more popular. So, this is why we should challenge a book instead of banding it.

Banding a old book should not be allowed. Older books give us a better idea of how life was like a hundred years ago. One example of this is that People tend to hate huckleberry finn because of use of the word niger but forget that in the book the african american was friend with finn and he didn’t find the word offensive because back than the word was very common. People got to remember that an older book was made by someone who was from a different time and place when things were different. We all know that Language changes with time so we got to keep a open mind to books that are from a different decade. The Offensive language nowadays was not offensive a hundred years ago. We should keep these books too see how people a hundred years ago thought, lived, and how they thought about life. Also remember Huckleberry Finn was a friend’s with the african american jim and when he called him this jim didn’t take it as offensive because the word was very common. We should keep a open mind about older books because it shows us how language has changed over the years and how people think.

Also going back to the first paragraph sometimes a Band on a book could just create a popularity around the book.
Many authors actual try to make their book more controversial because that creates a debate about the book and everyone wants to see wants to see what everyone is talking about so they buy and read the book. Authors can use publicity to make books more popular and having a book band is one way they gain publicity. Authors would rather have many people buy one copy of the book each than one library buying a few copies for many people. Many banned books get banned because they show a different way of thinking. The book animal farm got band in multiple countries such as cuba and north korea yet they still have gotten into the country and the only reason the book is band is because it goes against their government. Many good books have gotten band because of the different ideas they contains within so if we ban them for this it goes against are freedom of information. Many books contains ideas and beliefs from another point of view so we should keep them to understand this different point of
view.

These are the reasons why banning books should not be allowed for public librarys or governments to do, in fact I think no one should be allowed to band a book. Challenge books instead of banning books seems to be a better way. Books that are older show us the history of past by showing us what the author time was like. Also the banding of a book doesn't really hurt a book at least not in the United States because for the author it’s just free publicity. So these are the reasons why we should not go through all the trouble of banding books.
