This can be very dangerous because players who have suffered a concussion don't take the necessary time required to recover and they aren't fully aware of the risks they are taking. Those who suffer a first concussion are four times more likely to suffer a second one than those who have never experienced one at all. ( Second Impact Syndrome) Experiencing multiple concussions is very dangerous and can have long term effects on those who have received multiple head injuries. Every time a person steps onto the field, they are taking a huge risk. More recent than not, the overwhelming numbers of concussions reported has taken light in the media. Although this is very bad for the future of the sport, maybe it is a good thing for the future safety of players. (NFL Acknowledges) With more and more concerned parents it forces the NFL and other football programs to concentrate on the safety of their players and advance new technology to make the sport safer. The thing that catches my eye the most is the long term effects that banging heads on the football field has for people. “ When you receive a concussion, right away you might feel dizzy, confused or a little tired and you may have headaches or an upset stomach.” (Heading Off) The thing is that these symptoms that you can see go away in two weeks or less and cause people to forget that they had even suffered a concussion. Then the players return to the field and continue on with their lives not knowing the long term effects of their injuries. Warren Moon sat down with reporters and proceeded to make the following statement. “ Several friends of mine, former NFL comrades, often pull out of their driveways, go three or four blocks, and then call their wives and ask, where am I going?” ( Mounds of Injury) Warren Moon is in his sixties. Warren Moon’s NFL comrades are in their sixties! This is not normal for people of their age group. This is sad to think about because more and more players are going to have to face issues like this when they are older.
