The United States was unjustified when going to war with Mexico for multiple reasons. One of the biggest reasons was the expansion of a slavery state. Texas is very large and great for growing cotton, so if the U.S. annexed Texas, a very large slave state would be added. The second reason was that James Polk provoked the war. He was also a big believer in Manifest Destiny. This meant that he wanted to expand the land of the U.S. , and His motto was “54 40 or fight” which meant expanding the U.S. up to the northern boundary of the Oregon territory. If this goal was not achieved, they would go to war to get it.…

The Mexican American war started in 1846, ten years after Texas won its independence from Mexico. In 1844 Texas was annexed, upon their request, to the United States. This caused trouble with the Mexican government because they believed that the southern border of Texas was along the Del Norte river, while the American government believed that the border was the Rio Grande river. When U.S. President James Polk sent troops into this disputed territory, Mexico attacked, killing sixteen American soldiers, and starting the Mexican-American war. The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because, Texas was independent from Mexico, Mexico engaged in violence first, and Mexico was not governing Texas well.…

The first reason the United States was justified in going to war with Mexico is because they were in desperate need of land. The U.S’s population was growing rapidly due to its increase in birth rate and immigration (Document E). This growing population meant there wasn't enough land for everyone to live comfortably, which meant having to move west. The U.S would not just take land if they did not intend to put it to good use. They're moving their people into Texas because they need more space, which is a good reason why they had to move down…

If the United States took land and did such things to Mexico, why were they the ones to declare war on Mexico? The Mexican War began in 1846 after Mexico opened fire on Americans north of the Rio Grande, which happened to be the Texas-Mexico border. As a result of this event, President Polk declared war between the two countries, although, due to prior events, it seemed more reasonable for Mexico to be doing so. The United States was not justified in going to war with Mexico because they robbed land from them, brought slaves into Texas, and occupied land on the Texas-Mexico border.…

Texan independence and Santa Anna's actions are key reasons for the cause of the Mexican-American War. Texans and Americans knew that the Mexican government did not have the power to stop Texas from becoming independent. Rather than letting Mexican and Texan officials talk everything out they forced the captured leader to sign a document without the consent of the Mexican people. This action was undemocratic and hypocritical of Texas and the United States. Yes, Texas was justified running its own local government because Mexico just didn't have the power to govern Texas. However, they could have made better and more fair choices that could have benefitted both parties rather than benefitting only one and making the other suffer. Mexico refused to pay $2 million in damages from the Texas's war for Independence. They didn't want to pay because they never agreed to the treaty, to begin with, and…

People from Mexico wanted the Nigerian River to be the border, and the U.S wanted the Rio Grande to be the border of the state. Sam Houston came up with the idea that if he went past the Nigerian River and the Mexicans attacked, then Mexico would attack on U.S soil. They did just that, and like that the war had begun. The very first battles were The Battle of Palo Alto, and the Battle of Resaca de la Palma, which the U.S won. Another motivation was the possibility of riches and both countries wouldn’t want to give that up considering that they were dealing with bad economies. This subject impacted society by making a rally cry for Texans “Remember the Alamo”, for instance was one of those cries. Another negative factor was the cost of human lives that was deeply felt by the survivors for many years more than 5,800 Americans were killed or wounded in battle, and 11,000 soldiers died from diseases, in addition to others who succumbed from their war injuries soon after being mustered out of service. The enormous financial cost, estimated at more than $75 million, was another negative factor. Many Mexican Generals also forced peasants into the army for benefit of the…

“The war is waged against an unoffending people, without just or adequate cause, for the purposes of conquest; with the design to extend slavery; in violation of the Constitution, against the dictates of justice, of humanity, the sentiments of age in which we live, and the precepts of the religion we profess.” The war between the United States and Mexico had a lot of conflict between each other, and their tensions evolved over time. Although the United States war against Mexico resulted in the gaining of America´s most valuable land, the war itself was unjust because of the increase in slavery, Texans had greedy actions, and President Polk provoked the war.…
