Good evening, I am here to convince you that dogs are better pets than cats.
My three main points are: 1. Research has shown when it comes to intelligence, dogs out rank cats. 2. A dog will never try to talk you out of taking a walk. 3. Dogs are not only great companions but in some circumstances, can save your life.
My first major point is that research has shown when it comes to intelligence, dogs out rank cats. The New York Times recently had an article on a Laberdoodle named Jet, who lives in New Jersey. He is both a seizure alert dog and a psychiatric service dog whose owner has epilepsy, severe anxiety, depression, various phobias and hypoglycemia. Jet has been trained to anticipate seizures, panic attacks and plunging blood sugar and will alert his owner to these things by staring intently at her until she does something about the problem. They can learn to sit, lie down and fetch, for example, but can they read their owner's intentions? Research suggests they can at least find food in response to non-verbal cues, a type of understanding that scientists think may be akin to the human ability to understand someone else's point of view. The dog in the experiment pictured here accurately discriminated between photos of dogs and photos of landscapes — an indication the dog was able to form the concept of "dog."…

Dogs are able to connect not only mentally with humans, but also emotionally. Through observations dogs are able to understand different types of emotions and how and when they can progress. Depending on the age or the personal experience of the dog, their knowledge of human emotions may be slim in comparison to others. A study had shown that the average dog usually has a brain developed at the stage of a 2 ½ year old, which explains why dogs are unable to evolve more complex emotions (Knapton, Sarah). The comparison of the brain was intriguing to me because of how they were able to compare the development of the brain, to the ability of the portrayal of certain emotions. The direct relationship between the two allowed for me to recognize…

I know I have. Yes training a dog is a lot of work and takes a long time but it does help make them a better dog. Dogs are very responsive to cues that humans give. Cats don’t even care what you give them as a cue, they won’t do it. Another thing is that they are easily motivated. Dogs can be easily motivated if you give them treats and compliment them when they do something good. Cats will never be motivated to do anything. Dogs have problem solving capabilities. For years people have been disagreeing about which is better cats or dogs. I think dogs are a whole lot better. One reason I like dogs better is because dogs can work as service dogs. They are trained to assist people with physical disabilities. Tasks that service dogs can do are helping with pulling wheelchairs, opening doors, and picking up objects as small as a dime. Service dogs help the disabled. Service dogs work with people that have disabilities such as Diabetes, MS, Cancer, Autism and Epilepsy.…
