world, the mountains and the oceans, the changing of the seasons, the earthquakes and storms, volcanoes, floods, and existence of animals including humans” (Daly 7). The Greek gods can be known for the worlds natural causes.
Some of the Greek gods and goddesses such as Zeus, Iris, and Helios which are the gods of the sky. When you hear their names you might think of rainbows, thunder and lighting , and the sun. The humans used the gods to explain the creations that came upon them.
The gods were explanations for the earthquakes, storms, and other “natural causes”. For example the humans thought that if Zeus was mad there would be thunder and lighting .
“ Myths about god described life events”(Greek mythology) . The myths about the Greek gods also described the events that went on in a persons life such as births, victories , love affairs , etc.In Greek mythology there was a God for everything you could literally think of.
These gods were answers to the many questions that the mortals had. It would be questions pertaining to the sun, the moon, the seas , etc. the humans thought that if it weren’t for these
Greek gods and goddesses they wouldn’t have had the sun , the moon, the seas , etc. the gods were also known for being powerful. They could either help you or hurt you,”they could be kind and helpful to the people they liked , but they could also be mean and spiteful , playing nasty tricks and appearing when last expected “ (Borne 5). The Greek gods were beyond powerful , they were feared greatly by the mortals, because no one ever wanted to be punished by them. when they punished the mortals it would last forever , they would wish they didn’t upset the gods.
Their punishments would be cruel. For example, Prometheus the son of a titan tricked the gods into eating bones and stole the sacred fire from them. Zeus had him chained up and every day a vulture would come and eat hi sliver and every night it would grow back so his punishment would be endless. The mortals that weren’t on their bad side didn’t have anything to worry about. They were to most likely live their life, in fear hoping no to be on their bad side and get punished.
Now that we science proves the “wonders of the World” we don’t use the Greek gods as an excuse anymore, they are now describe as an imaginative figure. “People all over the world and different time periods have used myths to explain the existence and workings of the natural phenomena. They used the gods and/or heroes for justification of social and political institutions. The Greek myths are still unraveled in the western world as sources and an imagination”(Greek mythology). Even though now that we know the cause of these things to happen, or may have a logical explanation, Greek mythology has still yet been unraveled. Now that we don’t use Greek mythology as justification we use them for our imagination.
For example, narcissus in an mythological creature “he fell in love with his own reflection looking in water and drowned” (narcissus). Because of this myth there is an personality disorder called narcissistic. It’s when a person is excessively preoccupied with their self.
