Years ago when I played Basketball I never got a trophy and that was pretty depressing and I never got influenced to work harder. When you give a kid a trophy for participating they will want to work harder so they can get a better bigger more achievable trophy. When they earn a trophy they love it because they received an award or it can possibly be their first trophy.

Another way to this is that kids like the awards and they very much appreciate them like they have never had one before. When the kids receive something they very much love it and it depends on the way the people use their times to see if they work hard or if they're just a big couch potato.
Some people say that only the best kid on the team deserves a trophy and nobody else because they worked the hardest, however, that could be depressing because all of the kids on the team would feel that all they did was just a waste of time. As time progresses through their hard work would just go right down the garbage can. When kids decide to work hard they will work hard and it will pay off and they could possibly receive more than one trophy.
To conclude many people believe that people can argue that everyone should get a trophy. Including that people do want their kids to have a trophy too.
