Why Do People Exercise
Either you love to exercise or if you are like most people you dread the thought of going to the gym to work out. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that all adults in the United States get at least 150 minutes of exercise every week to remain healthy.
There are many reasons why working out and exercising can benefit your health. You don’t have to be a certain age to go and exercise, working out should be for you. Many people associate working out with losing weight and while that can be true it is also wrong. If you work out you can be losing weight to reach your desired weight or you can be exercising just to stay fit and be healthy. Many women and some men go to the gym right before summer to get that beach body that everyone dreams about. Whether it’s for appearance or health reasons losing weight by exercising can help boost your self-esteem. Not everyone who works out is doing it to stay fit, they are working out to stay alive. Regular exercise can help prevent heart dieses, high blood pressure, back pain, type 2 diabetes and can even help you manage stress. Your heart is a muscle, and exercise helps strengthen your hear allowing it to pump blood through the body more easily. Regular exercise reduces pressure on your blood vessels lowering your blood pressure. Also it will increase your endurance which makes climbing those two flights of stairs to your next class much easier! Exercising also increases the good HDL cholesterol levels, reducing the bad LDL cholesterol levels. If you exercise on a regular basis you can keep your bones, joints and muscles strong and enjoy a better sleep at night. Along with the physical effects of working out there is also psychological ones. When you exercise your body creates “feel-good” chemicals called endorphins, which can naturally help treat the factors of anxiety or depression, suggests the American Council on Exercise.
