in DR are left defenseless and nameless to point that the United Nations needs to help them.
For a person to be considered a citizen they must either be naturalized or born in the country, with this the question why Haitians born/naturalized were denaturalized arises.
Haitians descents with citizenship were stripped off their citizenship and were thus were mistreated with persecution by the Dominican Republic. Haitians born or naturalize by law were demeanor by the DRCC since the Haitians had already fulfilled the requirements for them to be a citizen. It could be argued that the DRCC commissioned this decision since they had feared that what happened to the Tainos, the natives that originally inhabited DR, could potentially be repeated and now try to prevent any intervention from a foreign country to assimilate its culture. Without a citizenship a person is stateless this therefore means that Haitians in DR are currently stateless.
With over 200,000 Haitian descendants denaturalized and only around 24,000 retaining their citizenship there are still over half Haitians in DR that currently stateless. Being stateless is an issue notably in cases where a family is poor and lives in horrible conditions because being part of the state allow people to be helped due to the governmental help. Not only are they unable to receive help with government but finding jobs are also harder since the economy is unable to work in the economy legally. This could produce a bad outcome and could be related with the US felony voting laws, once a felon is convicted and charged in the US they are stripped off their voting right and lose one of their basic rights as an American. This issue in this is how
parallel the situation is and with the high return rate of prisoners going back to jail the issue, thus leading to elude that Haitian now undocumented would only pull society back rather than improve it.
With the DRCC stripping their basic rights the Haitians are left powerless and discriminated to society since they are mistreated for being associated with a race/nationality which is why the United Nation needs to step up to protect their rights. The UN is the organization founded for maintaining peace and promoting social progress within the countries part of the UN. What the DRCC is currently doing is hindering social progress by preventing the Haitians from acquiring a better life even though some had already obtained naturalization in the country. It is the UN’s job to step in the situation to help prevent the discrimination the DRCC is performing and asserting authority over the DRCC would be unable to back down since a treaty or convention has more say than the countries constitution. The UN is the only organization strong enough to stop the
DRCC discrimination towards the Haitians and pass a law to override The DRCC constitution.
The DRCC mistreats it citizens is a form of discrimination since they won’t allow Haitians citizenship which in turn leaves them stateless. Haitians are deprived of their citizenship right even though they were naturalized in the DR but due to their ethnic background they were instead persecuted. Since they have no citizenship the Haitians are therefore stateless and also very prone to discrimination and not entitled to any basic rights. Since the Hatians are being persecuted it is the UN’s job to help them in their time of despair since they were organize to improve society. Without a state to turn to the Haitians citizen are oppressed by the DRCC since they aren’t granted citizenship which clearly defiles their natural rights.
