why do psychology
Why do psychology? Why not just depend on common sense when it comes to understanding human behavior? Justify a need for psychology in modern society. Write a thesis statement in your Journal to express your stance and use supporting details to substantiate your claim.
Nowadays, psychology plays more and more important roles in our society. With the development of the society, people under greater pressure and more puzzles in psychology emerged which we cannot understand based only on common sense. Even though you can use common sense to understand human mind and behavior, it is not reliable and accurate. So in order to understand humankind and be able to help them better, we should do psychology and study scientifically.
First of all, there is a group of people called psychopath who has strange personality. They are inclined toward antisocial and criminal behavior. They do thing that common people couldn’t understand like killing people without any sympathy and guilt. It’s a kind of personality disorder. Only through rigorous and scientific study of psychology, police can catch those crazy people and protect more victims. Through psychological treatment, psychopaths may be cured. In addition, common sense is not reliable. For one reason, common sense more easily describers what has happened than what will happen. It called hindsight bias in psychology which means the tendency to believe, after learning an outcome, that we would have foreseen it. Imagine that you receive a letter from a publisher that states that the publisher is going to publish your short story. You tell a friend that you knew that they would publish it. However, the friend reminds you that before you received the letter, you had told him that you were very uncertain about whether the publisher would accept your short story for publication.
