Nowadays school uniforms are becoming more and more common. About one in five public schools mandate students to wear uniforms, in turn gaining many benefits. However, many of these schools have received criticism for restricting students’ freedom. However, mandatory uniforms will increase academic performance, while lowering crime and bullying amongst the school’s population.
Academic performance would skyrocket if school uniforms were implemented. School is primarily for education, however schools often becomes a fashion show. Many times students find themselves arguing with their parents about what to wear, or worrying about how a certain outfit will resonate with their peers. The National Association of Secondary School principals noted that “When all students are wearing the same outfit, they are less concerned about how they look and how they fit in with their peers; thus, they can concentrate on their schoolwork.” School should be a place of learning and understanding, uniforms highlight those principles in turn creating a productive environment.
