Smoking cigarettes has become a vital part of many people’s lives. Some people are so addicted to smoking that they cannot pass a day without it. Smoking cigarettes has become a habit to people of all ages; ranging from children and adults to very old people. But nowadays, teenagers are mostly accused for taking up this habit which plays an important role in shaping their personality.
Teenage years are a period of mixed thoughts and emotions. Teenagers start smoking for various reasons; some which are ethical and some unethical. Some of them follow this habit by copying or imitating their elders who smoke. They learn from things happening around them and think they are mature and responsible. According to research, more than 90 percent of adult smokers started when they were teens. On the other hand, huge populations of the teenagers start smoking due to peer pressure. At such age, teenagers have more faith and trust in their peers rather than their parents. When their friends suggest smoking, they do not back down due to fear of embarrassment and hence start smoking to prove their ‘pseudo bravery’. Some may also smoke to reduce depression and stress cause due to friends and family problems. Lots of teenagers start smoking due to curiosity, to gain attention of those around them and to look cool. Although many teenagers think they have a reason to start smoking, the reasons mentioned above are not bold enough to defend them.
Smoking has an enormous role to shape the personality of teenagers. People who start smoking cigarettes from such an early stage become addicted to it and may also be into alcoholism, smoking weed and taking drugs, alongside. According to a certain research, each day 3000 children smoke their first cigarette. At least, 3 million adolescents around the world are smokers. Such girls and boys cannot
