Why Do They Who Have Truth?
They Who Have Truth I believe that there is not only one church that teaches the truth of the gospel. Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines truth as “A verified or indisputable fact, proposition, principle, or the like.” I believe that this word can be interpreted in many different ways, and have very different meanings. I write today specifically about the truth that we claim to have in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It is my understanding that many people in the church believe, and preach frequently, that we are the only church that teaches the truth. As a child of God, I simply cannot believe this to be true. There are so many other wonderful churches, religions, teachings and scriptures that hold truths in them. Having personally participated in various religious gatherings, I know for a fact there are many religions that teach truths within the walls of their assemblies. …show more content…
the Spirit of God manifests itself not only to men of this religion, but to all men everywhere. How could anyone negate someone’s faith with this in mind? How would anyone know what we teach has truth to it, without experiencing it for themselves? Why would we be compelled to learn more, without first experiencing what it means to know the truth? None of us in this marvelous church would be able to understand what it means to have the truth without something indisputable. That something is the Spirit. I do not mean the spirit of another being that once lived on this earth. I mean the Spirit of God. That Holy Spirit that comes to us in our moments of need. Who comes when we need Him most and even when we don’t think we need Him. That same Spirit testifies the truth to us, and helps us recognize the truth in different places and through various

For Christians and the church the Holy Spirit lives inside the Christian and guides the actions of those who desire His presence. The Spirit empowers the believer to step outside his comfort zone to do extraordinary acts of faith for God. Being filled with the Spirit involves transforming their minds to the mind of Christ as we engage in spiritual activities. Walking in the Spirit leads to a sense of peace and joy. Violating their conscience through acts of disobedience leads to a loss of filling by the Holy Spirit, which takes away their joy and peace. Although God will not take the Holy Spirit away from a disciple of Jesus Christ, the continual practice of sin and a lack of spiritual activities will lead to a life that is no different than the life of a…

Through His Word we can know our God and have thoughts about who He is. In a thoughtful desire to pursue truth there becomes a right and a wrong way of thinking about God, allowing us to discern heresy from sound theology. In his book God Talk, Randall J. VanderMey states that “close attention to Christian language— its possibilities as well as its poverties—can open the mind, reawaken wonder and strengthen faith” (VanderMey 16). It is important that we examine how prioritizing feelings over thoughts has affected our relationships with God. Instead of thinking thoughts about God and desiring to have knowledge about God, we prioritize feeling His presence and when we don’t feel His presence, we doubt His omnipresence. However, when we seek out truth about who God is—the thoughts about God that are written for us in Scripture— these thoughts about God become our thoughts, which in turn can produce feelings. How much more deep and rewarding is the feeling that we can attribute to…

There are many different types of religions that are practiced on a daily basis. Each one of these religions believes their beliefs are correct and other religions are false religions. One certain religion that seems to be talked about the most is called Jehovah’s Witnesses. This religion seems to have more history of myths than any other religion out there. What is truth? A simply complex question, truth is what we know, what we believe, or simply what is definite. I believe that we have personal truths that drive our beliefs, both of which are ever changing. In these changing truths, there is a common attribute: to further our truth is to strain our own being. For the betterment and continuity of human thought, we must undergo personal strains in the hope of going deeper into our changing beliefs. These strains are not all internal, for looking for truth is to subject ourselves to the possible maleficence of our own findings. The truth is a dangerous necessity.…

Early horror literature came out of a mix of the upcoming of romanticism, the decline of the enlightenment, and most of all from early gothic traditions themselves. Neo-gothic interests greatly sparked the minds of many 18th century writers, Edgar Allen Poe being one of them. Poe is classified as an American Horror author of the romanticism era who wrote many short stories and poems of weird, gloomy, and haunting concepts. The ideas behind many of his stories relate to the minds of many people who have felt like Poe’s stories imitate. In Poe’s famous, “The Fall of the House of Usher”, “The Tell-Tale Heart”, and “The Black Cat” there are many ways in which this crazy, seemingly insane writer uses the settings, mood, architecture, irrationalities, psychotic ideas, and supernatural characteristics to be described as a Gothic writer.…
