First & Foremost, videogames, especially those the allow for some form of violence and realism, has generally increased in appeal among children, teens, and young adults. Games like Call of Duty & Grand Theft Auto are to the kids of today like what Mario and Sonic were to the kids of the 80s and 90s. Thus, children & young teens are playing violent video games now more than ever before in history, yet, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. This is due to the fact that children learn how to separate real violence from fictional violence. Thus, children learn what’s right, whats wrong, and will be less likely to commit wrong in the future. In addition, violent video games indirectly protect children, due to the fact that videogames have become a larger medium of entertainment for all kids, including those that may live in dangerous areas. Now videogames are typically considered unhealthy because while they may make someone mentally active, typically one is physically inactive while enjoying such means of entertainment. In some cases videogames are to the mind as what exercise is to the body, even if some don’t see it that way. However consider it like this; would you rather want children to at least be somewhat mentally active within the safety of their homes learning how to separate real violence from fictional violence, or roughhouse in the streets unsupervised where they could be subject to all forms of
