Continuing the last dialogue, today's topic is the supporting reasons about why we really need to go to school. In this meeting, I will cover some points, which are the things that schools offer us and the pro and contra about home schooling and internet-schooling.
Well class, what do you think about life when we relate it with school? Yes, right. Life is bored, especially schools. Can you imagine life without any homework, assignments, and exams? Look at the clock. The needles move so slowly and we're stuck in this class with these things.
However, let's move on to the discussion. We all know that in our daily life, we have a relationship with a thing called school. What do you think about school? Yes. A school is a place where there are many teachers and students gather around to make a community and learn together. Not only that, school gives us many things. Can you figure out something that the school offers to us? Yes. Just take a good example. Like our own school. In this school, we can meet foreign teachers and have a different experience than the students from the national schools. Do you know another definition about school? If not I will tell you straight away. A school is a place that becomes the tools to transfer the subjects like the curriculum council told the school to give to students, take students through an educational program that is academically precise, demanding, challenging and exciting and teach us to have critical thinking too.
O yeah, not only in the academic things, but a school also teaches us about how to expand our behavior. The first step that they teach us is discipline, where we should be able to come to school and any class on time, obey the rules that make us bore, and be polite to surround us.
Are there any other things that the school offers to us? Of course, there are many things more. Just for example, it gives us freedom to choose our pathway according to our ability and our desires. It also offers us good facilities like laboratories, high standard of computers, library, and of course canteen for our stomach business. Furthermore, we can not forget about the highly experienced subject specialists, such as the teachers and staffs, also the cleaning service, security that supports our activities.
Also, although it is not one of the main things that the school offers to us, but we should not be forgotten that because of school we get much more friends to share our life with. Well, actually when our parents tell us to stay at home and do the home schooling stuffs, our faces aren't that happy enough. Do you know why? It is because they will miss their schoolmates, even their best friends if they have one. And by the way, about home schooling, we will discuss it in the other section. Continuing with the school, since a school is a place where we spend 60% or more our time in a week, it is a good tool to increase our social life. Just think of the fact that if we only get home schooling from our parents, we won't have a new friend at all. Well, maybe we can meet a new friend from our vacations, right? However, although we find a new friend in a vacation, we won't meet them as often as we meet our schoolmates.
The second thing that I like to discuss with you is about other types of schools. Can you mention kinds of schools? Yes. Two of them are home schooling and internet schooling which are very popular to parent's ears.
First is about the internet schooling. This style of schooling will request more creativity from the students, think more critical, on the contrary they will have more fun and enjoy it better than regular schooling, because they can arise their own way of thinking. Those are the positive side of this school. But, can you mention the negative effects? Right! Today's kids are having good or even very good relationship with internet, so besides doing school activities, they can play some online games, trivia even open the porn webs, right? However, the curriculum is good enough you know. Any question until here? < They will have standard examination that will relate to the Scholastic Achievement Test (SAT)> Move on. Class, do you know the reasons why some parents want their children to do home schooling rather than regular schooling? Yes. Parents protect and prevent their kids from many bad behaviors in the regular schooling by giving them an opportunity to take part in home schooling program. Quickly, the advantages are parents can develop their child-centered curriculum; parents can investigate online resources to discover what is available on any given topic in which their child expresses an interest, and so on. More, the disadvantages are the internet needs to be approached with some degree of caution and the most important one is the children are unhappy because of missing friends.
Well, that's all for today. We have discussed 2 reasons why we really need to go to school. And I conclude that people still need to go to school rather than only do internet and home schooling. Why? Because a school offers us more than just knowledge like I just said before. It provides us with many facilities that we can not get from internet and home schooling. Let me give an example, a Papua boy called Septinus George Saa, had won a competition called First Step to Nobel Prize in Physics because of his research from the internet. However, he goes to school too in his daily life, instead of doing some internet schooling activities.
Finally, although school makes us bore, we still need to go to school

The most significant temporary effect of 9/11 would certainly be the impact of the security as it affected Arabs and Muslims in the country, attempting to gain citizenship. Though the security measures found out thousands of illegal Arabs and Muslims, only 11 were related to terrorist associations. The other hundreds of thousands legally in the country with a visa were then required to register with the authorities through a program called the National Entry/Exit System (NEERS). However, this program aroused several complaints. For citizens such as Mohammed G. Azam, a 26 Bangladeshi native who came to the U.S. when he was 9 years old, even with the termination of the long-term and ineffective program, he is still affected (Dolnick). His case outlasted the program, and even though he should legally be a citizen under the authority’s rules, he is given much trouble. His father gained residency and technically his children, if of age, would be residents too, but because of the length of his case, he has grown out of childhood. He is one of thousands in this situation, spending a large portion of his money on hearings and trial work. He should not be given so much trouble for something he has the right to. This entire program was a sort of “knee-jerk” reaction (Dolnick). Understandably, the country took as many safety precautions and security increases as possible, including the creation of the Department of Homeland Security (Lerner), the head of the NEERS program, but while some measures of security permanent in airports made sense, the NEERS program was only a hindrance, interrupting and corrupting lives of many well-meaning people, like Azam. Azam will not be attending his sister’s wedding, and also says, “One-third of my life has gone to this immigration process…I grew up her. This is my country”(Dolnick). The program has been terminated as of 2011, but that temporary measure, a reaction that should not have…

In the article named “Report of the Massachusetts Board of Education” by Horace Mann, the author explains that school is an integral step to prepare for students to be aware of the responsibilities of becoming good citizens. On the other hand, the text “Against Schools” by John Taylor Gatto emphasizes that the role of the school system is not necessary in society since it forces students to go to school and sit around in classes for a certain amount of hours for twelve years, but many students feel useless and bored with the school curriculum. Although Mann makes a good point when he says school is important for student’s future, I must disagree with Mann and agree with Gatto because of my own educational…

All throughout my educational career I had never taken the time to reflect on what school really meant to me and if school was made optional would I still attend? After reading the essay “Against School,” by John Taylor Gatto a series of questions began to arise in my head. Is school really that necessary? Is it really the only way for a person to be successful in life? According to John Taylor Gatto schools are nothing but merely “laboratories of experimentation on young minds, drill centers for the habits and attitudes that corporate society demands (38).” After reading Gatto’s essay I must say I agree. The educational school system in the U.S…

Everyone grows up hearing their loved ones tell them how college is the uppermost important decision a person can make, pushing them to attend a college. But is college really the best choice? Authors Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill of “Should Everyone Go to College?” argues yes, college is the best choice but not for everyone. Sawhill (a codirector of the Center on Children and Families) and Owen (a senior research assistant at Bookings’ Center on Children and Families when the report was written) believe college should be carefully considered before committing. Things such as cost of education, return of investment, career choices, and college choice all need to be considered. Owen and Sawhill give the potential student many considerations…

Everyone needs some sort of schooling to be successful in life. In school, students learn to read, write, process thoughts and ideas and apply knowledge to outside situations. No one can argue the point that school and education aren’t necessary, because the thought is absurd. In my opinion though, school had become a competition instead of an education. Students have become so focused on being the best in their class, having a GPA a hundredth of a point higher than their friend, being involved in extra-curricular activities, and obtaining as much knowledge to the point of just memorizing rather than understanding. Believing that an average public school education will give you the knowledge you need to be successful in everything that you do in order to make a living is an incredibly false perception. Schooling gives you an education which sets a foundation for like, but how will you live if you’ve never had to think about living? Life lessons are important, but if you’re too busy focusing on schooling and memorizing pointless information, when will you learn to live? You wont get anywhere without having a basic knowledge of people skills and what you should expect from life once you turn 18. These days, the prestige universities are more interested in students who are well rounded and have an understanding of the world around them. Having an understanding of how the world is and will be is ultimately the most important idea you could ever learn. In order to bring education back to its sole purpose, we have to drop the constant competition. The issue with trying to back off competition and return to the original purpose of an education is who will start the trend. People can’t drop what they’re doing and back off to think about the real meaning of education. Because of selfish ambition, that’s impossible. Reevaluation of the system of schooling and learning…
