Youth Sports
Over 5 million kids and teens participate in sports in any school year. Many people claim that sports do more harm than good, but sports have many positives. Youth sports are helpful. Being that sports are proven to have positive outcomes on kids and teens, help them stay active and away from obesity, and they are a big part of teen’s lives today. Many people see sports are harmful and glamorized - taking attention away from the arts and academics. Studies show that high school athletes suffer about 4.36 per 1,000. However, it’s not the athlete’s fault the sports are glamorized, and most injuries are due to poor coaching and lack of acknowledging of the rules. First, sports are a big part of student’s lives. Dawn Comstock said, “We have an epidemic of obesity in this country, and sports is one of the best ways for kids to incorporate exercise into their lives.” Labella added that “parents can also help their children by ensuring that they maintain good physical conditioning all year-round, re properly coached in techniques such as tacking and falling...”. Last, sports have several positive outcomes on kids and teens involved.
