One night, when Anne was waiting for her Daddy to come and said her prayers with her, Edith told her that Otto would not come yet and suggested that she will replace the role of Otto one night as to pray with Anne together. However, Anne refused to praying with her mother, Edith was heartbroken by this, she said “ I don’t want to be cross, love cannot be forced.” with her tears in her eyes. Anne’s rejection also angered and upset Otto, he thought that Anne was so unkind and behave so badly towards her mum. Their family relationship became more worser.
However, Anne didn’t apologize at once, she thought Edith had pushed her away, and even her tactless remarks
and her crude jokes were funny, she is trying to take revenge on Edith by adopting her own attitude in a childish way. Anne persist to keep reflecting herself but not saying “Sorry.” in a polite manner to her mother directly, she decided three ways to avoid argument between her and Edith, firstly, stamping her feet a couple of times in a locked room; secondly, calling Edith names behind her back; thirdly, keep her mouth shut.
By putting myself in Anne’s shoes, I would apologize to Edith at once, as Anne’s rejection made her in sorrow, and even cried half the night and hardly slept at all, moreover, from the quote of Edith, she demonstrated her care and respect towards Anne, she also understand that love cannot be forced, nevertheless she tried to step one step forward, in order to have a deeper understanding of Anne, Anne didn’t accept her, and the distance between both of them even drew further. By saying “sorry!” Edith can be a little bit comforted and not as sad as before, at least her apology can be accepted and show that she is really regretted about her action the night before, they can build a better parent-children relationship and have a better understanding on each other
