Introduction:
Do you believe that Australia needs a new flag? My thoughts exactly, Australia is an independent country, and the Union Jack doesn’t depict that. Ever since the creation and reveal of the Australian National flag in 1901, the Union Jack is featured on every Australian symbol. This confusing representation of England’s dominance over Australia abolishes Australia’s independent nature and should be removed from our flag. Therefore, I propose a new Flag design that will effectively demonstrate Australia’s unique culture and Independence on the field of battle.

When designing my flag, I wanted Australia to uniquely represent independence and culture, by expressing colours and symbols in a way that no flag has featured or been positioned before. The Colours shown on the flag will symbolise something of Australian culture or heritage. For example, the red colour on the proposed flag represents blood and passion of those who fought to defend Australia and to share a connection with the Aboriginal people by including the Red on their flag which represents the red land. The Black on the flag represents the Aboriginal people’s representation of people, and Australian peoples power and strength. The Yellow represents the bright sun (In the Aboriginal Flag). These 3 colours are all featured colours on the Aboriginal flag. This will represent our now unified culture, and to symbolise our care for the Aboriginal people after the traumatizing events of the 1800’s. The Blue signifies the sea and sky that border and cover Australia. And the White represents Peace, and The Southern Cross, to show Australia’s location in the Southern Hemisphere. These colours will strongly suggest, and accurately represent their meaning on the
