Dogs and cats are some of the most owned pets in the world. There is a reason behind the saying that a dog is called a man’s best friend (Metaphor) because they have a special connection with humans that cats do not. Both pets have their own advantages and disadvantages but dogs are better pets because they show better qualities as a pet, such as they can provide an active lifestyle, be loyal to their owner, also help the society, while cats think they can take care of themselves and are generally selfish (Thesis).
One good quality of having a dog as a pet is that the dog encourages the owner to walk with it and that is beneficial for the dog and owner’s health. Dogs also can do a lot of things such as play games where they can catch a frisbee or a ball with their mouth, on the other hand, cats will probably be playing with paper bags or sleeping. Therefore, is there anything more miserable than owning a cat (Rhetorical question)?

Dogs can do a lot of things that cats can’t, such as sniffing out drugs, bombs, missing people, or even helping the blind and disabled. Dogs can be controlled easily because training them is very easy compared to cats. Dogs can be trained to cause less destruction around the house and they can be kept in dog crates (Anaphora). Training a cat is not easy and it can feel impossible sometimes because when you are trying to tell them something you will probably hear a small sound of kitty laughter (Personification).
