Why Donate to the ASPCA?

According to dosomething.org “Each year, thousands of young and healthy Greyhounds are killed because they lack racing potential or have been injured while racing and are no longer competitive” (11 facts about animal cruelty). Sounds terrible, right? Well, there is an organization called the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or ASPCA for short, that helps fight against that type of animal cruelty. The ASPCA was founded by Henry Bergh in 1866 (About the). Also, the ASPCA was also the first humane society to be established in North America and is also one of the largest humane societies. The ASPCA has authority to investigate and make arrests for animal cruelty. This organization would be a perfect place for someone to donate money to if they are looking to help out a charity. I believe that this is the perfect organization to donate to because they are always fighting against animal cruelty, such as violence, they help to stop puppy mills and they also fight to make animal testing illegal. This organization needs donations in order to stay up and going and to continue to rescue animals and keep them alive.
The first reason someone should be willing to donate to the ASPCA because they help to fight against animal cruelty. Dog fighting has been a huge part of animal cruelty for some time now. The dog fighting consists of two dogs fighting, pretty much to the death. According to The Humane Society of the United States “the fights average one to two hours, ending when one of the dogs will not or cannot continue” (Dogfighting). The injuries that the dogs sustain from these fights are usually extremely severe. Sometimes these dog fights can result in fatal injuries where the dog later dies. “The dogs used in these events often die of blood loss, shock, dehydration, exhaustion, or infection hours or even days after the fight” (Dogfighting).
