College is a time to learn maybe new things or to relearn one of your favorite subjects.
My favorite subject or topic to talk about has to be baseball. I grew up playing baseball up until eighth grade. The past two years I have been the baseball manager for the freshman and JV baseball teams at Saint John’s. In college, I would love to major in Sports Management and how to run a baseball team. I want to know about how to scout the players, the finances behind the team such as the payroll and eventually run a team myself. However the problem is none of the colleges I am looking at do not have majors in Sports management, so I would have to major in business instead, and I would just have to find an internship with a baseball team. Nevertheless, I also find U.S. History interesting and I like the course I am taking this year with Dr. McClintock. U.S. history has always been interesting to me; it is just the aspect of finding how we (the U.S.) got to where it is today. I would consider doing a double major in both business and History because both subjects are very interesting to
me. College for some people might be trying to get as far away from their parents as possible or staying relatively close to their parents or loved ones. I would fit into the second category because I would want to go to college close to my loved one whether I am near my grandparents in PA or my aunt and uncle in VA. I would enjoy attending a college in the Virginia/ Washington D.C. area, because I would not have to deal with a lot of snow and it would be somewhat warmer during the spring and fall compared to New England. Furthermore, it is beautiful with the cherry blossoms in the springtime in the D.C. area. Some of the colleges I would be interested in attending in the area would be University of Mary Washington, George Washington University, Georgetown, Catholic University of America and American University. I think that all these colleges would be suitable for me seeing where they are located for business and all the history behind the area as well. Albio Sires, a U.S. Representative, says, “For Americans, a college education is essential to future success.” Albio is definitely correct in saying this because colleges help you prepare for the real world, like balancing money or staying by yourself for long periods of time. College prepares us for not just a good job us also for the experience of living life without help from our parents. I cannot wait for the college escapade!
