Why I Chose Nursing

There are very specific reasons why I choice nursing for my career. I didn't realize it at the time, but these reasons have to do with my personality type. One of the major themes of an INFJ personality is the need for meaning behind their actions. We have this deeply rooted notion that what we do has to mean something. We are driven by our values which are to do what is right and make an impact. I noticed very early on in the jobs I've had thus far (online sales associate, barista, and front desk agent), that there was something missing. I often thought to myself, "This is such a waste of time. What good am I doing? How is any of this helping people in a way that really matters?" If I live my life working a job that I don't feel has meaning, it will wreak havoc. Life doesn't mean much of anything if I'm not loving, caring, serving, and helping others. Before I decided on a career in nursing, I entertained so many careers including becoming a counselor, doctor, missionary, lawyer, EMT, chiropractor, politician, alternative medicine Practioner, and a teacher. It's funny because all of these careers were said on the website to be good choices for INFJ's. I think my decision upon nursing was the right one. I know it will bring me the fulfillment of helping people while leaving room for some of my other life goals that something like a doctor or lawyer might not let me achieve. I want to get married and raise a family. Going to school for 6-8 years is too long for me if I want to also have a family. Taking this quiz helped put my mind at ease. My reasoning for choosing nursing was reaffirmed. Though I would like to say I that I am sure I want to be a nurse, there is always that little voice in the back of your head that fills your mind with doubt.
