Why I Chose Nursing

Doing this whole career packet has made me realize that you have to do a lot of work to figure out all the information. In the long run, it was worth it and I enjoyed doing it. Whenever I was asked, “What do you want to be?” I always responded “I want to be a nurse.” Then I would get all this praise for how that is such a good career, and I agree. Never knew what to answer what kind of nervous, I knew I wanted to work in the hospital. As time went on I did some thinking on what kind of nurse I want to be and some ideas came to mind. I either would like to be an emergency room nurse for the constant rush and no stopping, a geriatrics nurse because I love old people, or even being a nurse on the maternity ward or working with children. But just for now, my main focus is to get into the nursing program here at RCBC, graduate, and get a job in the hospital. This assignment benefitted me in many ways. It showed me related careers I didn’t know existed and that may be more appealing. Even new ways to look for jobs, without having your degree yet. What I found was intimidating is I will struggle getting into this program and not do well. I have to stop being hard on myself, start encouraging and striving for bigger and better things. I was excited to see all the different types of a nurse you could be. But the most exciting moment was reality settling in. That I am in college and I’ll be finished and on my way to my future in no time. And having almost every detail for my career planned out is major.
