While it was a struggle to get the swing of things, I always had that one person by my side making sure that I was one step closer to graduating, that person was my academic advisor. She was a big part in helping me get to the finish line in many ways. She helped me map out my future (something I never really thought about) and made sure that my experience at the university from an academic standpoint was nothing but a positive experience. As an English Major, I was provided the opportunity to work in the department as an office clerk, as well as a research assistant. I was provided guidance when it came to interdisciplinary projects that I wanted to pursue from my research advisor. He always provided me with the resources needed to conduct great research and explore the things that interested me the most. In my senior year, my mother passed away a month before graduation. All of the people I worked with in the English department, the registrar, the director, the administrative assistant and many of the professors were there for me; they helped lift me up and provided me with the confidence I needed to push through, take my finals and finish my senior year. While I enjoy working for a vocational training program, I would love to transition over to universities and colleges. I want to build a career on helping college students in the ways that others helped me. While I have a business management degree, which has provided me with the common knowledge needed to work with any organization or business, I am looking to gain more knowledge in the field of higher education in order to expand my career possibilities.
