They have a detailed plan of their academic road map. As a freshman I was required to meet with my academic advisor and plan out my next two semesters and a summer semester so that I would know exactly what is needed to be a successful student from semester to semester. Currently I have a detailed academic road map for the next two years. I need to complete two more years of the roadmap to have a complete roadmap of my college career. Personally, I believe a world class student would have an internship or job in their field of study by the end of their sophomore year to help expand their network and knowledge of engineering. I have been searching for jobs and internships for the up and coming summer. I am trying to learn my field of study academically but also, through a hands-on approach. To be considered a world class student I will need to find an internship within the next year.
Inevitable adversity is unavoidable. No person has ever been able to go through life without hitting something they struggled with. Any successful person or student, no matter the degree, needs to understand that not every subject, field of study, or situation will be easy. They must push through and deal with the trail. I lost my brother right after Christmas my JR year of high school. A month before I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. Within six days of my brothers passing my inflammatory markers took a turn for the worse. I was hospitalized for three weeks and could barely get out of bed. While all of this was happening, I was the head captain of the wrestling team for my high school. Three days after my brothers passing and being extremely sick I wrestled in a tournament. I went 5-0 and choose to wrestle up a weight class so my team could blank a team 76-0. After I was released from the hospital I was behind academically and faced weeks of makeup work for multiple teachers. Surprisingly, I ended that year with a 3.7 GPA. I came back the next year and graduated with a 3.9 GPA and placed 4th in states. I still battle doctors, my disease, and academics at the same time but I push through. My brother had a saying that has stuck with me since I was a kid. It was, life will go on. It just might suck for a bit. embrace the suck! It happens, but hopefully everything works out for the best. I believe I still have a great deal of things to learn when it comes to facing inevitable adversity, but I also know life isn’t always bad, it will get better and its worth waiting out the
