we learn the importance of teamwork which necessary for success. Gymnastics teaches the ability to overcome fears and the will to give everything you have to reach your goals. Gymnastics requires fearlessness and courage which are traits that will benefit as a future entrepreneur. I am not afraid to take risks, nor am I afraid to be judged for my thoughts and ideas.
The people who hold back because they are afraid of failing will ultimately come out short of the finish line. Gymnastics has taught me how to cope with failure, and to learn from my mistakes. Failure is a normal part of gymnastics, and since I have accepted this concept early, I have learned to go through life with grit and resilience. I wouldn’t have achieved all that I have in the sport of gymnastics without taking initiative and motivating myself to get better. Nothing is handed to you in this sport. You must learn ever skill you perform and have the desire to perfect every skill that you do. Every day that I walk into the gym, I take the initiative to get stronger. I use every minute of each workout to improve, and I push myself to get better. This same principle will be used at Penn State, because I will take advantage of every class and opportunity to better improve my education and knowledge. Beside from these traits, gymnastics has taught me many other life tools to help me succeed at Penn State. I have excellent time management. Being at the gym for over twenty hours a week has taught me to properly balance my training and my
schoolwork. My sport and my academics are equally important to me, therefore, they both are completed on a day to day basis. Gymnastics has also taught me discipline, and to stay focused on the goals that I have. I am one to work hard even if no one is watching. I am very discipline with my schoolwork, and I am one to make sure my work is done with 110% effort. Receiving a handful of corrections a day from my coach and taught me to take constructive criticism. From this, I have respect and politeness towards my coach, and this is also shown towards my parents and teachers. Gymnastics has taught me patience, because most skills do not come easy and have to be trained for weeks before they are perfected. As I have gotten older, I have learned to master more skills in a shorter period of time, and this has also shown in my schooling because I am able to learn new concepts faster than my peers. Gymnastics is a sport of perfection, so everything that I do is done concise and thoroughly. I believe that with my determination and focus which have been drilled in my head from the past thirteen years of doing gymnastics, I will succeed at Penn State and make a big impact at the school. I have the incredible opportunity to compete for the Penn State Women’s Gymnastics Team, and all the qualities I have described above will be applied as a student-athlete. I can ensure that my work ethic is beyond most of the other applicants, and I will use my gymnastics training as a stepping-stone to success.
