1. Why do you want to be a STEM Mentor?
I want to be a STEM Mentor so I can get to know the seventh graders, and help them get to know their school. It's important for the STEM kids to know that the high school students aren't as big or scary as they think, but that they're friendly, kind people who are there to help you and talk to you if you need it. If it was the first mentoring session of the year, there would be an activity where everyone stands in a circle, and you say your name and something you like that starts with the same letter as your name (ex. My name is Nina, and I like noodles.) Then as you go around, you have to say the names of everyone behind you (My name is Nina and I like noodles, that’s Adam and he likes apples, that’s Erica and she likes elephants, etc.). I think it’s important for the seventh graders to get to know the sophomores in these activities. After this activity, the sophomores would have a check-in with their groups/pods, and answer any questions they have. Then, we would play a game called _____(??) with our pods. In this game, each person would talk about themselves for 30 seconds, just saying random facts about themselves like what sports they play, what clubs their in, how many siblings they have, etc. Afterwards, the other members of their pod would write down as many facts about the person that they could remember. Once this was done for each person, the points would be tallied up for each pod (each fact remembered is a point) and the pod that remembered the most about each other
