In your life as a paramedic, your job will take a toll on your physical, mental and emotional health. You’ll be responding to homicides, traffic fatalities, and domestic violence incidents. You wonder when something good will happen, and then it does. You’ve been called out to private residence where an elderly woman has suffered a heart attack. Once you’re qualified and have experience, you might have an opportunity to be promoted after 2 years. One type of promotion would advance you to the role of emergency services team leader. You can also move from the paramedic role to clinical development which would take you into primary care, public health initiatives, management development, and maybe even entice you to become a paramedic instructor. You might want to continue your studies and become a nurse or a doctor as well.
