Why I Want To Be A Personal Financial Advisor

All my life, sports have played a big part and it is one of few things I’ve always enjoyed. It is why I get up at the crack of dawn to watch British Premier League games during the weekend, and it is why my minor is Sport Management. As I’m getting ready to enter a professional career, I do wish to keep sports a part of my future and I would especially prefer to keep it a part of my professional future. Whatever my professional career path ends up being, I wish for it to be something where my economics degree will be useful. Also, I thrive on personal relationships so for me having a job where I get to interact with people a lot is desirable to me. I also value my leisure time a lot, so I believe I’d value a job with better hours over a job with better pay.
Which leads me to the profession of personal financial advisor (or financial planner), preferably advising professional athletes in order to keep sports involved. As a financial advisor, I would get to work with people, develop my communication skills further, build personal relationships with my clients, as well as utilize my economics background and possibly my understanding for sports management. To be successful as a financial advisor, experience is key, and therefore my first move once I get my degree should be to try getting an entry-level job, a trainee position or an internship at a place where I could gain valuable experience, such as Wells Fargo Advisors. If I am lucky, I manage to land a position where I can also get the necessary regulatory licenses. If not, I will have to find a way of obtaining all licenses outside of work.
