Physical Therapist
The career I’m pursuing is Physical Therapy. I chose this career because it is what I have been doing all my life. My grandfather was ill and I help him recover from many strokes, that is one of the many things that motivates me to keep going in pursuit of my dpt. Physical Therapy can be defined as the treatment of abnormal body mechanics that may be caused by illnesses, injuries, by way of physical methods such as massage, heat treatment and exercise. You are considered a “Doctor” when you finish but most Physical Therapist don’t like to be called “Doctor. In my personal opinion it is a fun career but serious at the same time. Physical Therapist have to be able to measure, calculate, reason and analyze data. Being able to do such will make it possible to evaluate and diagnose patients. Interpersonal Skills are vital and can be accomplished through communication. Interpersonal Skills are need because most of the time is spent with the patient and talking has to be second nature. In order for motor skills to be obtained by the patient, the physical therapist has to have good motor skills themselves. A physical therapist has to be able to guide, catch if necessary and control the balance of the patient. The ability to focus on detail is vital and really the most important skill out of the all skills. Because there are so many bones and muscles to consider, one has to have a keen eye for detail. A physical therapist also has to be compassionate due to patient being frustrated about their progression. I plan to meet these Requirement through my Job and through my school training. I also want to go to other Physical Therapy settings and be employed. I need to work on compassion, the results are important to me but the patients personal progress and emotions are the most important, I need to work on my communication skills because I stutter but I know I can fix it. I plan on working on my compassion by visualize each patient as one of my family members and I plan on communication by talking more and joining
