Why I Want To Be A Police Officer Essay
As a child everyone always asks, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I used to hate the question just because I never had an answer. Growing up in middle school I would watch a lot of Criminal Minds and Crime Scene Investigation shows. I was not the typical child watching Disney movies; I liked all the action TV shows. All of the Criminal Justice shows helped me decide what I want to do with my life; I want to work in the Criminal Justice field. I have a few family members that are military; they inspire me to work in something that would make a difference in our country. The criminal justice field is open to many opportunities; one of the things I want to go into is Police Patrol Officers. The main task of a patrol officer is to protect the life of others and their property. They are assigned an area in which they have to enforce the law in. This job has a certain amount of basic requirements like, you must be a United Sates citizen, at least 20 years of age, and must pass a certain amount of physical, oral and pyscological test. Most local and state departments require you to do a 12 to 14-week police academy training. Most states require at least two years of college study to qualify, and then must pass a written and physical examinations and psychological test. Once you are officially hired you have to start training in the academy which can last anywhere from 3 to 12 months. Always keeping in mind that continuing training can help all agents improve their job performance. As a police officer you should always be taking classes to better yourself in firearm safety, self-defense tactics, crowd control techniques, and communication skills. You should always be aware of the new law enforcement equipment that comes out and you have to right experience to handle
