Since shadowing with Dr. Dunlap at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, I look forward to finding a job within a hospital or clinic in which I would be specialized in a certain area of optometry. From an educational standard I hope to have gained a well enough understanding of my area of specialty in order to inform and discuss with patients the reasons for their change in eyesight. There are other biological factors that influence vision, such as having diabetes can increase risk of blindness. Notifying the patient of this risk may encourage overall health changes and improvement in vision. As a future optometrist I can explain to patients the reasons for the discomfort they are feeling, and why they may be feeling these symptoms. By being able to give patients an understanding of their own health this will help promote future preventative care. After having gone through residency I will be able to find myself being an important part of a community by which I am friendly and familiar with my patients and
