nowadays, getting a bachelor's degree for me is like getting a high school diploma on an AP level. I really desire to get my master's degree as a family and child nurse practitioner. As of now, I am still finishing my pre-requisites for nursing here at the College of San Mateo, and at the same time I work at the financial aid office as a student assistant. Working in the financial aid office is really fun because I get to help and work with different people, I am being trained to give clear guidance and instructions to students to fill out their FAFSA application. Even though it is a simple task, it is a humbling privilege for me because the financial aid office facility trusts my skills and ability to handle and take care of students. It is also a great exposure and training for my future career as a nurse practitioner because sooner, I'll be dealing with a diverse group of people. This will be my first time to apply for a scholarship and I am deeply encouraged to really try for it this time because even though I am very willing to study and finish school, financial funds is scarce. I am an independent student and I personally have to earn to cover my personal and educational needs.
I am still thankful for what I have and what I earn as of this moment, because all of these are just temporary. Being rewarded financially would really help me to fund my educational needs, especially that I will be applying to different schools and universities that offers the nursing program. The reason why I desire to be a nurse practitioner and not a doctor is because honestly, I'm not getting any younger, my parents are not getting any younger as well, and knowing that I am the eldest among my siblings, I really want to help my family financially. I want my father to take a rest from working because ever since he was a young boy, he has been working for his family and siblings, and as his child I want to tell him to rest and I'll take care of what needs to be taken care of. It's not just my parents and siblings, it is also one of my plans to help my cousins back in the Philippines. They may not have the same opportunity that I have here in California, at least I can help them finance their tuition fees to pursue a higher educational goal so that they will have that edge to be employed in a reputable and steady career in the
future. During weekdays I usually hold a life group (a bible study group with a group of teenager girls and young women) every Wednesdays, where I get to share with them the word of God. During life group, I explain and share to them how the word of God and the teachings of Jesus Christ applies in our lives, and it is a good way to guide teenagers about family, friends, their plans, and many more. I love it because everything that I share towards them are all based from the Bible and it is a healthy way to bond and build each other up. Every Sunday, I'm also one of the Sunday school teachers teaching kids from ages 6-8 years old.
