Universities like the University of California- Davis, Texas A&M, and Ohio State University all have good veterinary programs available at their university. I remember that when I was a little kid I had my life planned out it went like this, get into Texas A&M at College Station, study veterinary medicine, and own a mini cooper. As a child I thought it would be very easy to accomplish everything, but as I got older I began to question my plans, I began thinking that maybe I could be a …show more content…
General Surgeon because I didn’t think I would be capable to cut an animal open without getting sentimental. Now, I believe that being a veterinarian will be possible for me to do. I will know that every day I will improve a huge amount of animals lives.
To become a veterinarian, you need to take classes such as biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, physics, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, math, animal science, and more, and these classes are given to help prepare for veterinary school.
To be able to practice veterinary medicine on animal patients, you must be licensed in the states or state that they are practising in. In some states it is required for a veterinarian to pass a state specific examination, which tests their knowledge of the state’s laws and regulations that are required for the practice in veterinary medicine. To be a veterinarian you must complete a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M or V.M.D.) degree at an accredited college of veterinary medicine. The veterinary medicine program usually takes four years to complete, which includes classroom, laboratory, and clinical
components.
In my opinion, I believe that having veterinarians are important in the lives of humans (us), because they help our furry friends by improving their life expectancy with animal medicine. There are studies that show how animals benefit the lives of humans. Not only can animals make us (humans) happy, they also contribute to making us healthier. One study found out that heart attack patients who owned pets lived longer than those who didn’t. Another study, found that petting one’s own dog could reduce blood pressure. I have three dogs and one turtle, they are the ones I looked forward for when I go home. As soon as I arrive home, my dogs are the ones that are first to greet me. They always make my day, when they do something funny (which is like almost every day).
Some of the states that are very popular in having veterinarians are California, Texas, and Florida. California has 6,360, Texas has 4,450, and Florida has 3,610 of employed veterinarians in their state. The duties that veterinarians do are examine animals to diagnose their health problems, treat and dress wounds, perform surgery on animals, test for and vaccinate against diseases, operate medical equipment equipment, such as x-ray machines, advise animal owners about general care, medical conditions, and treatments, prescribe medication, and euthanize animals. Companion animal veterinarians, equine veterinarians, food animal veterinarians, food safety and inspection veterinarians, and research veterinarians are the different types of veterinarians.
