Why I Want To Go To College
“I am lucky that I am here, step by step, achieving my dream. I am lucky that I can go to college. I am lucky that I had the opportunity to reach my dream.” These were the words that came to my mind when I found out that I was granted a scholarship. Whenever me and my family visit my relatives in the Philippines, I feel saddened by the lack of opportunity for my cousins, and for the youth. Instead of going to college, they are working under the sun, harvesting fruits and vegetables to earn money. My mother had a similar fate. Her dream was to graduate college, and be what she wanted to be. Among her ten other siblings, my mother was the only one who was on the top of her class. Even though she studied hard, and was always on the honors list, it didn’t matter because her parents couldn’t afford to send her to high school. Instead of going to high school, she had to go to the city to work, and help her parents and her siblings. As part of this class, we had to apply what we learned in a nursing home. On our last day at the nursing home, I proved to myself that being a nurse is what I really want. I wanted to be there. I want to help other people. I want to make them get better. That experience made me more motivated to pursue my

In today’s society, we as Americans of the United States—the younger generations—often well-overlook the struggles of our parents, grandparents, and so on. The United States of America is globally referred to as the land of opportunity.
